My Hair and I

I love to change my hair! I've had it all sorts of different styles, though it mostly remains on the short side as I lack the patience to let it grow. My best friend, Heather, is an amazing hairdresser and I've missed having her around giving me styling tips, messing around with hair color, and creating funky looks.

Here are a few pics from my Photobooth of my hair revolution over the past few years!

A Step into the Unknown

This photo was taken in Zambia when I visited Victoria Falls. The bridge crossed right next to the Falls and the spray was so overwhelming that you literally had to feel your way across putting one foot in front of the other and getting soaked in the process.

This is me.

b.deniston photography

Over the past few weeks, I've had a lot of fun playing around with a website I found called Wix. It allows you to build a free website and while obviously you need to pay to upgrade to make it a truly professional site, I found it so easy to use and I love how it looks!

No, I'm not claiming to be nor am I planning to become a professional photographer, but it's so fun to dream!

Update

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you already know, this September I'll be moving back to Spokane. This wasn't a quick or sudden decision, but something I've been praying about since early this year and as I get closer to leaving for home permanently, I find myself being more deliberate about appreciating the view around me. My friends here, the beautiful scenery, my favorite coffee shop. It's odd to think of this adventure coming to a close even as my excitement continues to
build for the next step in life.

Life here is changing. My regular work is tapering off as I begin to work myself out of a job and pass my duties on to others. It's a weird feeling, but I'm also enjoying the extra time I'm able to spend with people. I'm not sure what life will look like once I'm home again, but I'm exploring the possibilities. Change is never easy and I know this move will take a toll, but I'm trying to prepare myself as much as possible in advance. Please be praying for me that God would give me wisdom in this season and the next.

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying your summer! I can't wait to catch up with you once again.

Love,

Brittany

Photoshoot with Rae

Yesterday, my good friend Rae went to the Matric Dance [similar to a Prom] and I was able to go along for the photoshoot! It was so much fun and Rae looked beautiful!

Funny Faces

I am constantly shoving my camera into my friends faces. I love to capture secret expressions and unposed faces, but I often snap pics of hilarious, unguarded moments. Or when they are deliberately trying to make a silly face. Here are a few examples. [Oh and its not a coincidence that my friend Anneke is featured so often!]

Birthday Fun!

Yesterday was my birthday and I had such an amazing day! It started with a fondue night at a friend's house on Monday. Lots of wine and laughter!

Then I woke up the next day to a phone call from my family [the conversation is a little blurry in my mind as I am not a morning person!] and a bouquet of flowers and yummy savory muffins from my wonderful roommate Hayley as well as delicious, take-away coffee from my favorite cafe from my good friend Keri! What an awesome way to start my birthday!

Then a few of us went to lunch at Zannas where the staff surprised me with this . . .

chocolate deliciousness . . .

Then we went shopping and ended the day with a hair-dying party, more wine, and yummy cake!

Thanks everyone for making this day so special!

Speak to Me

I love how God speaks to us all in so many different ways. He is creative, diverse, and unpredictable. Lyrics, lines from movies and books often speak to me when I least expect it.

This is a song that has really inspired me lately.

"I know I need you,
I need to love you
I love to see you, but it's been so long
I long to feel you
I feel this need for you
and I need to hear you
is that so wrong?

Now you pulled me near you
when we're close I fear you
still I'm afraid to tell you
all that I've done
Are you done forgiving?
or can you look pass my pretending?
Lord, I'm so tired of defending
what I've become
what have I become?

I hear you say . . .

My love is over,
it's underneath, it's inside, it's in between
the times you doubt me, when you can't feel
the times that you've questioned 'is this for real?'
the times you've broken, the times that you mend
the times you hate me, and the times that you bend.

Well my love is over, it's underneath
it's inside, it's in between,
these times you're healing
and when your heart breaks
the times that you feel like you've fallen from grace
the times you're hurting
the times that you heal
the times you go hungry and are tempted to steal

In times of confusion, chaos, and pain
I'm there in your sorrow under the weight of your shame
I'm there through your heartache
I'm there in the storm
My love I will keep you by My power alone
I don't care where you've fallen, where you have been
I'll never forsake you
My love never ends, it never ends"

Birthday Knitting

Yesterday was my good friend Anneke's Birthday and knowing how much to loves home-made gifts, I decided to knit these awesome leg warmers. Our mutual friend, Jen, sent me the pattern and while it took awhile the end result was totally worth it!

4th of July Fun!

This was my third Independence Day in South Africa and I think this one was my favorite here. Lots of great food, fireworks, laughter, spontaneous outbursts of patriotic songs! I love that I live so far from home with so many Americans. [Even if the Texans insisted on playing 'God Bless Texas' about a dozen times]

[This was my creation and it was more like pink, yellow, and blue, but it tasted nice!]

Here are some of my recent photos that I love and can't find a good excuse to post on my blog. So I created one!
